Reporting a CoC Violation

How to report a Code of Conduct violation at SAINTCON, on-site or over Discord.

If you see or experience a violation of the Code of Conduct, report it. We take every report seriously and investigate each one.

On-site (during the conference)

Look for a SAINTCON staff badge. Staff badges are clearly marked and staff are trained to take reports. Any staff member can either handle the report themselves or get you to someone who can.

If you’d rather talk to a specific person:

  • Registration desk (main lobby, first floor) is staffed throughout the event.
  • Committee members listed on the Planning Committee page can also take reports.

Off-site / after-hours / before or after the conference

Reach the committee on Discord. DM any active committee member, or post in #help and a staff member will reach out privately.

What to include in a report

You don’t need every detail to make a report. Include whatever you have:

  • What happened, in your own words.
  • When and where (conference day, approximate time, room or area).
  • Who was involved (names, nicknames, descriptions). “I don’t know their name but they were wearing a red jacket” is a valid answer.
  • Anyone else who saw it.
  • What you’d like to happen next, if anything specific.

What happens after a report

  • Reports go to the committee’s CoC response group, not to the whole committee and not to the public.
  • You’ll typically hear back within a few hours during the conference.
  • Investigation can include talking to witnesses, reviewing footage, or talking to the subject of the report.
  • Outcomes range from a conversation with the subject, to removal from specific events, to full removal from the conference and bans from future SAINTCONs.

What we will never do

  • We will not share your identity with the subject of a report without your permission.
  • We will not share report details publicly.
  • We will not take retaliatory action against someone for making a good-faith report.

Urgent situations

If someone is in immediate danger or a crime is in progress, call 911 first, then tell SAINTCON staff as soon as it’s safe.

The full Code of Conduct has the list of what counts as a violation. When in doubt, report it and let the committee decide.
