SAINTCON is a security conference, and many attendees have legitimate reasons to stay out of frame. The policies below are the same rules everyone operates under, staff included.
The short version
- Talk recording is not allowed unless the speaker opts in.
- General photography is allowed, with consent of whoever is in the shot.
- If someone asks not to be photographed, they aren’t. Same for video.
Attendee photography
- Of people: you need consent. Asking is a two-second conversation; do it.
- Of spaces (empty rooms, signage, the venue, your own swag): fine without asking.
- Group shots: get a verbal “everyone OK with a photo?” Everyone should be OK with it, or the photo should be reframed.
If someone appears in a photo and later asks you to delete it, delete it.
Recording talks and sessions
Per the Terms & Conditions:
- Audio and video recording of SAINTCON sessions is prohibited unless the speaker and organizers have explicitly approved it.
- Streaming sessions is prohibited. This includes to private channels.
- Photography of slides and presenters is generally allowed unless the speaker specifically asks otherwise at the start of their talk. Respect that request.
Recordings produced by the official SAINTCON A/V crew may be published after the conference at the committee’s discretion.
Kids and minors
Photography of minors, particularly during Family Night, requires affirmative parental consent. If there’s any doubt, don’t take the photo. Press coverage of Family Night should be arranged in advance with the Family Night coordinator on the Planning Committee page.
Violations
Photography and recording violations are also Code of Conduct violations. See Reporting a CoC Violation.
