The UtahSAINT Membership Radio Network is a Utah statewide, fully encrypted (AES-256) simplex communication channel available only to UtahSAINT members. There are no repeaters and it is entirely peer to peer, which makes it well suited to direct member-to-member communication. It is a good option during the conference, so if you want to take part, this is your chance to get connected.
Before the event
Not a UtahSAINT member? Join in the SAINTCON Discord by typing /register.
Get the right radio. You need a Baofeng DM-32UV. This model is required, and it is on you to buy and bring it.
Get a DMR ID. You need a UtahSAINT DMR radio ID to use the system. The signup form is posted with the event details.
On the night
Bring your radio. We program it and upload a base contact list.
Questions
Where can I use these frequencies?
They are licensed and controlled by the UtahSAINT Organization for its membership under an FCC Part 90 license, throughout the state of Utah.
Do I need a ham license?
No. These are Part 90 business band frequencies, not Part 97 amateur band.
Can I read the keys back off my radio afterward?
No. To protect the AES-256 keys and the code-plug, and to keep control of the network, your radio is restricted from reading the code-plug and keys back out.
Can I change the radio later?
Yes. You can still upload contacts and use the on-screen menu. You can also wipe it with a replacement code-plug, which removes it from the member network.
